The Faculty of Education at Charles University addresses the issue of educating students with specific needs very comprehensively. Students with specific needs can be for example students with disabilities or disadvantages, students with socio-economic disadvantage or in critical financial circumstances (receiving or non receiving social scholarship), student with critical personal circumstances (personal, family, partner problems), student with recognized parenthood period etc. There is a long tradition of supporting marginalized groups and the Faculty of Education now addresses this issue even better because from 2020 to 2022 there is being held a project „ESF pro VŠ II na UK“ [ESF for Universities II at CU ] funded by the European Union (reg. no: CZ.02.2.69 / 0.0 / 0.0 / 18_056 / 0013322) [ which aims at even higher availability of counseling services for students with specific needs. These services can help them increase their competencies and their motivation to study or even prevent early school leaving and study completion.
As the topic of marginalized groups, here students with specific needs, is also shared by us within the AMASS project, we decided to start a joint debate on this very important topic across both projects. On 31. 3. 2021 a meeting of representatives of both projects took place, during which we discussed the possibilities of students at the Faculty of Education, possible problems during their studies and ways in which students can be supported in solving them. The outputs of this meeting will serve for further cooperation across projects and will contribute to solving this important problem in both named projects.
